Flat Pack Meals is a volunteer led, not-for-profit, food project aiming to provide the local communities with affordable and healthy recipe packs to cook at home every week. Each meal and soup pack contains all the ingredients required to cook the recipes along with detailed instructions. We pride ourselves in being able to deliver fresh produce that whenever possible is seasonal and locally sourced from Scottish farmers and suppliers. To enable this, we work with our local vegetable supplier Seasonal Produce. For the recipes we currently provide click on the recipe tab above.
By offering these food packs we hope to not only make it easier to have a low-cost and healthy home cooked meal every week but to also teach, motivate and inspire confidence in our customers to cook for themselves. We believe this will help our customers to continue, and also enjoy, making affordable, healthy choices throughout the week for themselves and their families.
Flat Pack Meals was initiated and developed by Drumchapel L.I.F.E with a team of dedicated volunteers and coordinator Amber Cully. It began life as a collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Arts which followed on from the work of WochenKlauser who initiated a women’s led co-operative selling meal bags in the local area. For more information about the beginnings of the project you can watch the video: "The Making of Flat Pack Meals"
In early 2016, a pilot was funded by the NHS health improvement team in Cairnbrook trialling the sales of bags in the East End of Glasgow. Due to the success of this initiative, Flat Pack Meals is now established and operating in the East End, with bags for sale in 4 Family Learning Centres and The Calvy Centre on a weekly basis.
Drumchapel L.I.F.E is funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
